Nana's Bonnag
A traditional Manx fruit loaf, simple to make and lovely with a cup of tea. A treasured family recipe.
Nana’s Bonnag

Ingredients
- 200g self-raising flour (sieved)
- 75g margarine
- 75g caster sugar
- ¼ tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 100g sultanas
- Pinch of salt
- 1 large egg
- Splash of milk
Method
- Preheat the oven to 150C.
- Sieve the flour into a mixing bowl.
- Rub in the margarine75g margarine.
- Add the caster sugar75g caster sugar, bicarbonate of soda¼ tsp bicarbonate of soda, sultanas100g sultanas, and salt. Roughly mix together.
- Add the egg1 large egg and mix in.
- Mix in a little milkSplash of milk at a time, until the mixture just falls off the spoon.
- Spoon into a lined loaf tin.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes. Check with a clean, sharp knife. It is done when no mixture sticks to the knife.
- Transfer to a cooling rack.
